The American Legion 318's Christmas Tree is at the entrance to Christmas in the Park, directly across the street from the Tech Museum. Be sure to bring the family out to see our Red, White and Blue Tree. Christmas in the Park is now listed in the Top 10 Christmas Displays in America, with over 450,000 people visiting the park every year. We are pleased to have a tree again this year. And very proud to represent the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary and especially 318. Photos of the tree are on the Photo Albums page.

“Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) 10 Employee Resource Groups (ERG) are accepting applications from college-bound high school students as well as current college students who may qualify for scholarships of up to $6,000 in 2014.” http://pgeweb/news/Pages/20131121_ERGscholarships.aspx
Students are able to apply for all 10 Scholarship programs, and the deadline is February 16, 2014.
Because veterans are being stripped from their benefits due budget cuts, the Veterans ERG (one of the ten Employee Resource Groups) is in search for veterans or dependent of veterans as recipients, but we are not limiting the scholarships to this group. All college-bound high school students as well as current college students are welcomed to apply. We are going to give away at least ten $5,000 scholarships next year.
FRAUD ALERT: Veterans should be aware of a marketing scam targeting callers trying to reach the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Call Center or GI Bill Call Center. A marketing company has established two fraudulent numbers that differ from the two official VA call center numbers by one digit. If the fraudulent number is dialed by mistake, the answering party will offer a gift card and try to obtain personal and financial information, including credit card information, from the caller. The answering party may even transfer the caller to the VA after the caller’s information is obtained. Note that VA will never ask you for a credit card number or banking information over the phone. Before giving personal sensitive information over the phone make sure you know who you are taking to.
The numbers to be avoided are:
800-872-1000 (the VA National Call Center number is 800-827-1000)
888-442-4511 (the VA GI Bill Call Center number is 888-442-4551)
